Monday:  Arithmetic Sequences

Learning Target:  Students will recognize and write formulas for arithmetic sequences.

  • Review Solving Equations
  • What is an arithmetic sequence?
    • Find the next three numbers.
      • 2, 5, 8, __, __, __, …
      • 1, 2, 4, 8, __, __, __, …
      • -11, -4, 3, __, __, __, …
      • And more
    • What is the difference between arithmetic and geometric sequences?
    • What is a term?
    • How can I find the 10th term in an arithmetic sequence?
    • How can I find the 100th term in an arithmetic sequence?
    • Is there a faster way?

Tuesday: Arithmetic Sequences

Learning Target:  Students will recognize and write formulas for arithmetic sequences.

  • How can you find the 100th term in an arithmetic sequence?
    • Write a rule to the nth term.
    • Use it to solve for any term number.
    • Real life example of where this is used.
  • AIA Project (Arithmetic Sequences & Graphs)
    • Finding the rule
    • Groups of 2 or 3
    • Students will need graph paper

Wednesday:  Weekly Assessment 3

Learning Targets Covered;

  • Test C; Students will use order of operations to solve problems dealing with quantity.
    • Practice on text website Chapter 1 Lesson 2 (parts of other lessons added)
  • Test C; Students will solve equations and manipulate formulas to solve for an unknown variable.
    • Practice on text website Chapter 3
    • Solving Equations Practice Link
  • Test B; Students will solve inequalities for an unknown variable.
    • Practice on text website Chapter 6 (exclude graphing on coordinate plane)

  • Test A; Students will recognize and write formulas for arithmetic sequences.

Thursday: AIA Project (Finding the Rule)

Learning Target:  Students will use sequences to find patterns and create a rule (formula) that will them find the nth number.

    • Part 1b – Use the rule to find more points
    • Part 2 Extension
      • Plot points on a graph
      • Look for Patterns
      • Find a rule for the patterns

    • Linear Equations

Friday:  Half Day of School; Arithmetic Sequences

Learning Target:  Students will recognize and write formulas for arithmetic sequences.
