Monday:  Factors

Learning Target:  Students will find the greatest common factor of two or more monomials. (Chapter 9 Lesson 1)

  • Review what are polynomials and how do you find their products.
  • Unit 5 Introduction “Factoring Polynomials”
    • What is factoring?
    • What is it used for?
  • What are the prime factors of monomials?
    • What is prime?
  • How do you find the GCF of two or more polynomials?

Tuesday:  Factoring Polynomials

Learning Target:  Students will factor a monomial out of a polynomial.

  • 5-minute check over finding the GCF of two or more polynomials.
  • Review:  How do you multiply a polynomial by a monomial?
    • Chapter 8 Lesson 6
  • How do you factor a monomial out of a polynomial?
    • Chapter 9 Lesson 2
    • Distributive Property
    • Find the GCF of all terms
    • Put in parenthesis what is leftover?
  • Class Practice

Learning Target:  Students will factor a monomial out of a polynomial.

  • Test post view
    • Students can get with their teams and go over the results of their assessments. (Spread out in the two combined rooms)
    • Help one another with their mistakes.
  • Factoring Practice Sheets
    • Students will work individually on the odd number problems for about 30 minutes.
    • Go over some of the questions and concerns as a class.
    • Students can work with their teams to finish the sheets and help each other.
  • Whole class discussion on questions and concerns the last 10 or 15 minutes.

Friday:  Factoring Polynomials

Learning Target:  Students will factor a monomial out of a polynomial.
